Meniscal Tears

The most common among knee injuries, Meniscal tears can arise from acute trauma or sport injury. Athletes, particularly those who play contact sports, are at risk for meniscus tears. However, anyone at any age can tear the meniscus.

Menisci are two wedge-shaped pieces of fibrocartilage that act as shock absorbers between your femur and tibia. They help to transmit weight from one bone to another and play an important role in knee stability.

Causes

  • Trauma caused by extensive or twisting and hyperflexion of knee joint.

Symptoms

  • Extensive pain, swelling and stiffness, Inability and pain hindering full range of joint movement

Conservative treatments

  • For degenerative meniscus tears, with arthritis
